Traffic campaign starts in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Traffic Police has started a campaign against the violation of traffic rules, aiming to ensure the safety of the masses. Sultan Azam Tehmori, the superintendent of Traffic Police, on the directives of IG Islamabad has formed a special team to oversee the campaign. Under the supervision of DSP Traffic Hasan Raza Shah, the SP Traffic has directed the team to take strict action against those who use pressure horns, unconfirmed number plates and tinted glass vehicles. The campaign will continue for two weeks. The SP Traffic warned government departments’ transporters not to use pressure horns and said that no compromises will be made during the campaign. Motorcyclists were also advised by the SP Traffic to buy helmets within the next week. online
Pakistan Science Foundation to arrange scientists’ convention
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Science Foundation will arrange a convention of scientists in collaboration with MoST and the (UNESCO) on the occasion of “World Science Day For Peace And Development’’ (WSDPD). The convention will emphasise the recent earthquake, its scientific explanations and forecasting for today (Thursday). Dr N M. Butt, the chairman of the Pakistan Science Foundation will address the conference. Renowned scientists from the country, Dr Ishfaq Ahmad, the special adviser to prime minister, Prof Dr Azam Ali Khawaja, the dean faculty of Natural Sciences, QAU Islamabad, Dr Qamar Zaman, the director general of Pakistan Meteorological Department, Islamabad, Prof Dr M Qasim Jan, vice chancellor of the Quaid e Azam University, Islamabad and Dr S R H Baqri, the director general of Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) will express their views on the recent earthquake and its after effects. Chaudhry Nouraiz Shakoor Khan, the federal minister for Science and Technology, will be the chief guest of the convention. Qazi and Fazl meet
ISLAMABAD: Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the president of Muttahida Majlis e Amal (MMA), and Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA), held a meeting on Wednesday. Sources said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman took Qazi in confidence regarding his meeting with Tariq Aziz, the secretary of the National Security Council. They also decided to adopt the same stance on the government decision to depute a retired army officer as head of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB). online
3 headmasters made OSD
RAWALPINDI: Three headmasters of different city schools of grade 18 were demoted to Officer on Special Duty (OSD) after they were removed from their current posts. The headmasters include, Raja Muhammad Arif of Government Islamia Higher Secondary School 1, Murree Road, Qazi Ozaf of Anhasia High School, Murree Road and Mukhtar of Mandra High School. The government has demoted 78 headmasters to OSD’s for poor results in the annual Matric examinations. Strict action will be taken against more than 100 headmasters of grade 17 including five from Rawalpindi. online
Islamabad Telecom Region to convert phone numbers
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Telecom Region has planned to convert and divert phone numbers of Chah Sultan and Amar Pura, for an efficient and fault free telecom service, the spokesperson of Islamabad Telecom Region said on Wednesday The spokesperson said that the telephones of these areas starting with the prefixes 550xxxx, 559xxxx, 578xxxx, 595xxxx and 596xxxx, 441xxxx, 442xxxx, 445xxxx and 484xxxx will be diverted and converted into single prefix 570xxxx. He said that the PTCL call diversion facility is providing old phone numbers to all customers of Chah Sultan and Amarpura for fifteen days with effect from the date of conversion of these phones. Exchange features like CLI, code barring, call waiting and other services will be continued, he added. app

ISLAMABAD: Lieutenant General Carlo Gagiano, the chief of the South African Air Force, along with his wife Mrs Leonie, has arrived on six-day visit from November 9 to 14. During the visit, Carlo Gagiano will visit various operational, training and engineering facilities of Pakistan Air Force (PAF). online
LHC dismisses plea seeking cancellation of couple’s bail
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking bail cancellation of a couple that married by choice. The court observed that the couple, Faisal and Afshan, had admitted to their marriage in a trial court therefore the superior courts could not declare their marriage illegal. Afshan’s uncle Shahzad filed the petition seeking the cancellation of bail granted to the couple by a trial court. He accused Faisal of abducting Afshan and raping her for two weeks. staff report

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry on Wednesday dismissed an application asking for an early hearing of a petition seeking a ban on companies manufacturing spurious hepatitis vaccine. Faisalabad UC nazim shot dead, three injured
FAISALABAD: A union council (UC) nazim was shot dead by four gunmen in Sathar area on Jhang Road on Tuesday. Police said Mian Afzal, the nazim of UC-151, along with his guests, was sitting in his dera when four armed men riding in a car opened fire on him. Mian Afzal died on the spot while Councillor Ghulam Sabir, Muhammad Anwar and Muhammad Arshid were injured. The injured were admitted to Allied Hospital. app
PML to support Sultan Ranjha as naib nazim
SARGODHA: A meeting of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) held at Bhera decided to support Mian Sultan Ali Ranjha, the candidate of the ruling party, for the office of district naib nazim in the in-house elections of the district assembly. The meeting also decided that the PML would support Haroon Ihsan Piracha for the National Assembly (NA) seat in the forthcoming by-elections of Sargodha zone one (NA 64). Ghias Ahmed Mela, Mian Manazar Ali Ranjha, Chaudhry Nasir Muhammad Ali, Mian Muhammad Naseer Jalap, Inamulhaq Piracha and other members of Piracha family and members of district assemblies attended the meeting. People demonstrate against private schools
QUETTA: People of provincial metropolis have demanded that private schools should provide necessary facilities to students in winter and summer seasons rather than merely minting money. The parents of the students say that schools are set up in streets and bazaars and they have offer no facility to students and at the same time charge high fees. It is reported that most of the schools have neither roofs nor walls which is endangers the lives of children studying in these schools.online
Two arrested for threatening complainant
MIRPURKHAS: Police arrested two men on charges of threatening a man of dire consequences on Tuesday.Complainant Muhammad Ismail Samejo lodged a First Investigation Report alleging that Rasheed and Hafeez Shoro threatened to kill him when he asked them for the registry of 15 acres of agricultural land that he had purchased from their father for Rs 233,285. The police apprehended the accused Rasheed and Hafeez Shoro following the complaint. app
FESCO announces power suspension schedule
FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) announced power suspension plan for the repair, maintenance and expansion of electricity supply lines, on Wednesday. The power supply to Medina Town, Katchery Road, Factory Area and Nishatabad Feeders will be shutdown from 8am to 12 noon, the electricity supply to Scarp-2, new university feeder will be suspended from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. app
Robber killed in shootout
KARACHI: An alleged robber was killed and two of his accomplices were arrested in a shootout with the police in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Wednesday. Body of the deceased identified as Sher Afsar, 30, was sent to the mortuary of the Edhi Welfare Foundation. The names of the arrested are Dilawar Khan and Jehanullah. app
