International relations office established at NCA

By Shoaib Ahmed

LAHORE: An international relations (IR) office has been established at the National College of Arts (NCA) to increase contact with foreign educational institutes, NCA Multimedia Arts Academic Coordinator IR Zafar Iqbal told Daily Times on Monday.

Zafar, who is also the NCA director, said that an Iranian filmmaker would hold a workshop on cinema at the college in collaboration with NCA’s Human Resource Development Programme (HRDP).

He said that NCA had become a popular international institution and foreign faculties had visited the college over the last several years, but the college had not been able to maintain a proper record of their visits. Under the IR office, contacts would be made with foreign educational institutes and a data bank of foreign faculties would be complied. The college’s departments had been given a Performa to fill information about foreign faculties that had visited NCA, so that records could be maintained, he said.

The director said that the IR office had also been established because NCA was offering 11 seats to international students. A website was being launched, which would contain details for foreign students about the admission procedure, Zafar said, and the office would collaborate with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to invite foreign faculties for teaching students.

He said that under Human Resource Development Programme (HRDP), Iranian filmmaker Dr Muhammad Shahab would hold a workshop on filmmaking and teach students participating in the HRDP’s six-month evening course.

Dr Shahab told Daily Times that Iranian cinema had great scriptwriters and it was now gaining international recognition.

NCA Principal Sajida Vandal said that students from NCA’s Film and TV would leave for Azad Jammu Kashmir on November 21 to make short films on the October 8 earthquake.
