Earthquake rescue and relief: Clerks not celebrating Eid

LAHORE: Relief efforts and collection of donations for the rescue and relief operation for earthquake victims in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Northern Areas (NA) and (NWFP) continued on Wednesday.

APCA: All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) Punjab Executive Body announced that almost 2.2 million clerks would not celebrate Eidul Fitr this year.

Punjab govt: 1,319 trucks of relief goods have been sent so far from Faisalabad region. Of these 1,117 trucks were sent from Faisalabad district, 149 from Jhang and 53 from Toba Tek Singh. The relief goods included food, tents, shovels, lamps, generators, candles, polythene sheets, blankets, quilts, pillows, shrouds and medicines.

Meanwhile, 228 trucks carrying relief items were sent from Sargodha district, Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar. Eighty-one trucks from Sargodha, 74 from Khushab, 42 from Mianwali and 31 from Bhakkar were dispatched with quilts, blankets, warm clothes, tents, medicines and food.

APMA solidarity walk: Around 1,000 earthquake victims and student from various schools of affected-areas participated in a solidarity walk that was organised by All Pakistan Minorities Alliance (APMA) at Balakot on Wednesday, a press release said.

The solidarity walk was organised to express solidarity with the destitute survivors of the earthquake. The purpose was also to encourage these victims to overcome their traumatising experience with the quake. The walk started from APMA’s base camp (tent village) and ended in Balakot. The victims’ pledge of rebuilding Balakot infused a new spirit and enthusiasm.

APMA Chairman Shahbaz Bhatti told the participants that APMA stood with the victims in their crisis. He said that APMA would support the victims in their effort for reconstruction and rehabilitation and it would open a tent school at Balakot for the affected children.

Citizens Relief Committee: Citizens Relief Committee and Labour Party Pakistan sent 11th relief truck carrying goods worth Rs 200,00 to Balakot on Wednesday.

PTI: Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf’s Punjab office bearers Admiral (r) Javaid Iqbal and Bashir Chaudhry told a joint press conference that their party had sent around 2,000 tents, 5,000 blankets and other items to the earthquake-hit areas till now.

PSF Commission: Pakistan Social Forum, an alliance of civil society groups and NGOs, formed a Citizens’ Commission on Rehabilitation and Reconstruction on Wednesday.

Caritas Pakistan: Caritas Pakistan, an NGO, will distribute Eid gifts to the earthquake victims at Services Hospital, Lahore, on Thursday (today).
