Earthquake rescue and relief efforts: Government sends more relief goods

LAHORE: The government and non-government organisations (NGOs) continued collecting donations and sending relief goods to the earthquake victims in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Northern Areas (NA) and NWFP on Friday.
Punjab Government: The Punjab government sent 186 more trucks containing relief goods to the NAs. The relief director general said that 64 trucks containing food, three containing medicine, 14 containing tents and 105 trucks with blankets were dispatched.
Nawaz Sharif Cell: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has formed a Nawaz Sharif Field Hospital in Muzaffarabad for the quake-victims. Four trucks, buses and 50 doctors were sent to the affected areas.
Auqaf Department: The Punjab Religious Affairs and Auqaf Department donated Rs 1 million to the President’s Relief Fund for rehabilitation of quake-victims and sent six teams consisting of 31 cooks to Rawlakot, Garhi Dupatta, Muzzaffarabad and Bagh.
Punjab University: The Punjab University (PU) has established a committee under Prof Dr Dil Muhammad Malik’s chairmanship to supervise admission process for the students from Azad Jammu and Kashmir University to the PU.
Khana-e-Farhang-e-Iran: Iranian Cultural Centre, Lahore, and the Punjab government have arranged activities such as Quran recitation and prayer service for the people who died because of October 8 earthquake. The programme will be held on Sunday at Al-hamra Hall.
University of Education: The University of Education announced a donation of Rs 50,000 for its guard Abdul Ghafoor. Ghafoor’s relatives died because of the earthquake.
Caritas Pakistan has supplied plastic sheets, cooking utensils ,quilts and blankets from Catholic Relief Services to 4,500 beneficiaries.
Sargodha and DG Khan regions: 245 trucks containing relief goods such as medicine, tents, quilts, food, clothes and blankets have been sent to the quake-affected areas so far. 142 of these trucks were dispatched from Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali and Bakkar districts while the rest were dispatched from DG Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah and Muffargarh districts. 2 more trucks will be dispatched from DG Khan tomorrow. Relief goods worth Rs 15 million have been sent so far to the NAs, NWFP and AJK.
