PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly on Tuesday opened debate on the provincial budget for financial year 2014-15 with opening speech by the leader of opposition, Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led coalition government in KP presented Rs 404.80 billion budget last Saturday and an interval of two days the House resumed debate on it with Speaker Asad Qaiser in the chair.
In his opening remarks, Maulana Lutf-ur-Rehman said though the PTI had come into power with the slogan of bringing change, but their budget proved a traditional and jugglery of words.
He said for good governance the government instead of telling the stories of the wrong doings of the past should have guaranteed judicious distribution of resources. He said the budget should have based on facts to usher change in its basis.
Lutf-ur-Rehman said if the government wanted bringing of revolution in health sector, it required the provision of health facilities and funds to improve conditions of district and tehsil headquarters hospitals.
He said instead of Rs 404.80 billion, the actual budget for financial year 2014-15 was Rs 382 billion. He said the budget has a deficit Rs 12 billion and also disputed instead of 17.35 percent the budget was higher only 11.4 percent than the current financial year. Furthermore, he said the budget could not be called balance as it was lacking equal treatment with districts.
