LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and a high-level delegation of a prominent Chinese group TBEA led by its President Zhang Jainxin here Sunday discussed matters regarding solar project in Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur.
The Chief Minister told the Chinese delegation that foundation stone of first solar project of Pakistan had been laid in Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park that would start producing 100 megawatts of electricity by December 2014, adding that the project would be completed speedily and in a transparent manner.
Shahbaz said that solar power project was an important step towards elimination of darkness from the country, and the Chinese company was working day and night to complete this project even before December, assuring that all out cooperation would be extended to the company for this purpose.
TBEA President Zhang Jainxin said that every effort would be made for completion of 100-megawatt project before the timeframe and in accordance with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister. He said that he was deeply impressed with the hard work and determination of Shahbaz Sharif, asserting that Punjab government was working on energy projects speedily and in a transparent manner and these projects would ensure relief to the masses.
Punjab Chief Secretary, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Special Assistant Azmul Haq, Chairman Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park Arif Saeed, concerned secretaries and senior officers were also present.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, while chairing a high level meeting, gave approval to increasing the area of Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park Bahawalpur from 10,000 acres to 15,000 acres of land, besides increasing its capacity from 1000 megawatts to 1500 megawatts.
The Chief Minister said that small solar power projects would also be set up at various places in Punjab, and directed that technical study of various places be carried out for establishing these projects and final recommendations be presented within a week.
Shahbaz Sharif said that necessary facilities would be provided to investors at Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park on priority basis and early completion of solar project would be ensured.
During the meeting, Quaid-i-Azam Solar Park Chief Executive Officer Najam Shah gave a detailed briefing on the project, while Punjab Chief Secretary, Additional CS and officers of relevant departments were also present.
