Govt urged to release Rs 40bn workers’ fund

KARACHI: A delegation of the National Trade Unions Federation (NTUF) will visit Islamabad on May 22 to raise issue of non-releasing of Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) with the authority concerned, said NTUF Deputy General Secretary Nasir Mansoor while talking to PPI on Sunday. He said that the federal government had to pay about Rs 40 billion fund to Sindh government in the head of WWF as the amount had not been released since last 3-4 years. This amount is spent on private sector industrial workers welfare such as dowry grant, death and education funds but due to non-release of the funds, workers are suffering badly, he said. To a question, he said that the fund had been halted after complaints of corruption and still the inquiry was being continued. We are not against the probe, however, it should be completed but halting the fund is injustice with the workers, he said and urged the federal government to release the fund forthwith.
