PESHAWAR: Minister of State for Water and Power, Abid Sher Ali Wednesday said that the good policies of the government have resulted in considerable increase in recoveries from electricity defaulters.
During the last three months, Rs 70 million recovery was made from electricity defaulters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stated this while addressing a press conference here at Governor House adding that most of the recovery was made from defaulters of Hazzara division.
Abid Sher Ali expressed gratitude to Governor and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhaw for their efforts in making the recovery possible from the defaulters adding that efforts are underway to achieve the recovery target by June.
He said the government had started long term energy projects across the country to overcome the energy crisis as well as provide uninterrupted power supply to industrial and agricultural sectors for prosperity of the country.
He said the World Bank has approved $ 700 million for construction of Dasu hydro electric power project, adding that Dasu Dam is a critical project to meet the energy needs of the country with a potential to generate 4200 MWs of cheap electricity..
The Minister said that the federal government has initiated several projects of power generation in one year including 600 MW Prot Qasim and completed Nandi Pur Power plant in record seven months period.
He dispelled the impression that WAPDA was involved in indiscriminate power supply to the provinces and said that on the directives of Prime Minister each and every feeder is being monitored.
Abid said that Terbella extension project, Diamir Bhasha dam and Dasu dam projects would considerably reduce electricity loadshedding in the country. In addition to these, he said the government has allocated Rs 25 billion for completion of five-year projects in the provinces.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa emphasized upon working together for better Pakistan.
He urged federal government to immediately release Rs 17 billion out of Rs 25 billion to KP province so that rehabilitation of electricity infrastructure could be done in shortest possible time. He said it is joint responsibility to ensure timely completion of energy projects and bring the country out of energy crisis.
