Govt striving to improve energy sector, says Dar

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance, Ishaq Dar has said that Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) government is taking all important steps to bring improvement in energy sector and for this, a huge amount would be spent to complete several power projects to achieve the objectives.
He said that a sufficient amount was allocated in the budget to meet the need of energy across the country. 
He said that PML-N government is utilizing all available resources to streamline the system. 
Talking to a private TV news channel, he said that measures have been taken to expand the tax net to generate revenue. 
He said that an amount of Rs.128 billion was collected from elite class through better taxation system. 
Ishaq Dar said, “We have time to engage in proactive consultations with stakeholders to achieve the targets regarding collection of tax.”
Finance Minister said that the present government is focusing on alleviating poverty and in this connection, several public welfare projects would be completed in near future to generate employment and strengthen economy of the country. He said the government has supported Income Support Programme and increase monthly stipend for deserving people with the allocation of Rs.118 billion. Ishaq Dar said that the government has increased the pension besides minimum wage for labourers.  Relying to a question, he said that present government is going to bring electoral reforms to conduct next general elections in a transparent manner. 
He said that biometrics system would be introduced in the next elections. To another question, the finance minister Ishaq Dar said that Parliament was the right forum to discuss the national issues.
