ISLAMABAD - Mobile phone imports into the country increased by 3.49 per cent during first 11 months of the year 2013-14 over the same period of last year.
The imports of mobile phone into the country during July-May (2013-14) were recorded at $564.296 million against the imports of $545.268 million during July-May (2012-13), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Similarly the mobile phone imports into the country during the month of May 2014 also surged by 52.64 per cent and decreased by 23.38 per cent when compared to the imports in May 2013 and April 2014 respectively. The mobile phone imports during May 2014 stood at $48.076 million against the imports of $38.967 million in April 2013 and $31.496 million in May 2014, the data revealed.
It may be mentioned here that the country's trade deficit narrowed by 5.66 per cent during first 11 months of current fiscal year as exports expanded by 3.71 per cent while imports witnessed negative growth of 0.57 per cent as compared to the same period of last year.
The exports from the country during July-May (2013-14) were recorded at $23.112 billion against the exports of $22.286 billion recorded during July-May 2012-13. On the other hand, the imports into the country during the period under review were recorded at $40.777 billion against the imports of $41.011 billion during the corresponding period of last year.
Based on the figures, the trade deficit during July-May (2013-14) was recorded at $17.665 billion against the deficit of $18.725 billion in July-May (2012-13), showing negative growth of 5.66 per cent.
